Clam chowder

New England clam chowder in a bread bowl

In this post, I’m going to talk about one of my all-time favorite dishes, which is clam chowder. I recently ate clam chowder last summer at Fisherman’s Wharf when I was in San Francisco. There are different kinds of clam chowder, and two of the most famous ones are New England clam chowder and Manhattan clam chowder. I had the New England Clam Chowder in San Francisco since that was the only kind I could find with the limited time in San Francisco that I had. New England Clam Chowder contains onions and potatoes, and it’s either milk or cream-based. This explains the creamy texture of the chowder. The Manhattan clam chowder is made from tomatoes, so this explains why the chowder itself is red. Chowders are either served in a bread bowl, a cup, or a bowl, and it’s often served with oyster crackers.
